1_Group Work

Is it possible for students to form a team, or to add new members to their team, if they have already registered for the competition?
Yes, you may add team members, or form (new) teams, after you have registered for the competition. Indeed, all students must register individually, even if they are part of a team. Each team may have a maximum of three members, and must be supported by a tutor.
Your participation as an individual or as a team member will be determined finally by the participant information included with each project (in summer 2010). Before submitting your project, please make sure that the names of all team members are included on the project panels (see P_2 Task § 9.1).

Can two students from two different schools work together in the same team?
Yes, teams with students from different schools are acceptable, provided one member is designated as the team leader.

Does every student in a group have to be in their final year of studies?
No, groups can be composed of students attending different courses at different levels. But each of them must meet the requirements individually.

Would you make an exception and allow me to join a group which already has three members?
Groups cannot be larger than three students. But you may of course enter the competition as an individual or form your own group

Is it possible to participate in the competition as a group consisting of students of different years: one on the final year of a bachelor's and one taking a master's degree?
Yes, the group may be composed of students from different years.

2_Faculty

Is this competition also open to landscape architecture students?
Yes, we welcome their participation!

Do we have to have an architecture student(s) in our group or is it acceptable that we are all planners?
It might be sensible to include an architect in your team, even though for the competition we do not make a distinction between architects and planners.

3_Tutors

Does the professor/tutor who is supporting me during the competition have to be a member of the University faculty? Or can I be supported by an external tutor, working on a contract basis?
Your tutor does not need to be a permanent member of the faculty, but s/he must have a formal employment contract with the university.

Does the professor who will supervise our work have to be from the same university as we are? Or can we have a professor from another university?
The support of a professor is mandatory, but you may be supported by a professor from any European school of architecture.

Is it possible to participate in the competition without a teacher? We want to design our own projects together with fellow students from our university.
The Schindler Award targets both students and their schools, with the aim of motivating schools to integrate the topic of Access for All into their curricula. We therefore request that teachers and professors provide support to their students, but students are free to choose any teacher in their school who is willing to provide mandatory support.

Are there limitations on the number of teachers that may support a group during the competition?
No, there is no limit on the number of teachers that may support a group of students.

4_Bachelor/Master/Diploma

I am an architecture student currently enrolled in the 4th year of study (earned 180 ECTS) at a university in Bucharest, which operates under the bachelor+master integrated system (after graduation we are issued with the master's diploma). I would like to know if I am eligible to participate in this competition.
Yes, you may participate. We are delighted to welcome you to the competition.

I am a young architect (27 years old) and I finished my studies in architecture in 2007. Can I participate in the competition?
We are sorry to inform you that only students who are currently registered at a European university or college of architecture may participate in the competition.

May I enter the competition and use my project for my pre-diploma?
Yes, provided you have studied for at least three years at a school of architecture and your diploma is the final exam of either a bachelor's course or of a master's course.

I am an architecture student and going to graduate in 2010. Is the competition open to graduating students?
Yes, provided you register for the competition while you are still a student.

5_Schools' Prize

I have a question concerning article 6 of the competition rules: could you please explain what is meant by "12 students per 1 project"?
This refers to the number of projects that may be submitted by schools competing for the schools' prize. Participating schools may submit a maximum of one project for every 12 students entered. This means the schools must conduct a pre-assessment of all projects prepared by their students. Projects submitted by schools, as opposed to those submitted by individual students, are automatically entered into the final judging round.

I registered online with my professor. Does this mean I am now registered as an individual (and so have to send my project directly to you for the pre-selection)? Or am I registered by my faculty (and must give my project to my professor for the pre-selection process and then have it forwarded it to you)?
If your faculty takes part in the competition with 12 or more students, the faculty may compete for the schools' prize. In this case, your faculty must conduct the pre-selection to determine which project(s) will be entered for the competition (see the detailed rules in document O-1 articles § 4 - § 6). If the faculty is not competing for the schools' prize, you should send the project directly to the address given in § 15.

Can projects that are eliminated during the pre-selection process of a school still be entered for the general competition?
No. If your school chooses to compete for the schools' prize and therefore organizes a pre-selection process, only pre-selected projects will be accepted for the final judging round.
