April 30, 2008: Record number of applications

A record number of students and schools of architecture have applied to participate in the third Schindler Award. By the closing date of April 25, 957 applications had been received for the competition (compared with 504 for the Schindler Award 2005/2006). The Competition Management is particularly pleased that 95 schools of architecture from 22 European countries have expressed interest in the Schindler Award.

Please note:
If 12 or more students from the same school apply for the Schindler Award, that school qualifies for the school competition under the following conditions:
- Continual support is given to the participants by their teachers during the design process.
- At least two specific lectures are offered by the school: consisting of a seminar or a workshop on the issue of “accessibility”.
- Students’ projects are pre-selected by their faculty, to decide which are submitted for the competition finals.

Schools which are eligible for participation in the special school competition stand to win a prize of 25’000 €.

Schedule:
Projects to be submitted: August 1, 2008
Projects to be judged by jury of experts: September 9 - 13, 2008
Award Ceremony in Lucerne (Switzerland): November 14, 2008

The main goal of the Schindler Award is to establish the topic of "Access for All" in schools’ curriculums. We therefore strongly encourage schools to take the initiative in this regard.

Please check the FAQ's regularly for updated answers to participants' questions. Don't hesitate to contact us, if you have any questions. All questions concerning the organization of the competition and/or the program, should be emailed to award2008@nuesch.ch.

The Competition Management and the Jury look forward to seeing the projects and are counting on the students for surprising and constructive proposals.
