The authors strive to integrate the lines and forms of existing buildings around the site into the project, creating an ensemble of various large structures. In the extreme north they construct an office building that constitutes an “urban gate”.

The Idea
This project takes its inspiration from different structures, lines, and flows around the site, amplifies them, and freezes them into a contextual “mold”. It not only addresses the various required functions but also explicitly organizes and integrates the existing buildings around the site. While the Otto Wagner bridge becomes an integral part of the design, a new office tower in the far north creates an “urban gate”.

The Project
This project is a composition of different building blocks. The apartments, of different forms, are located in various spots, offering a mix of different qualities. The community centre takes up the biconcave shape of the area between the river Wien and the viaduct, creating an attractive courtyard. The fast food restaurant and gas station are placed in the northeast both as barriers and as a means of connection to the traffic.

The Jury Assessment
This is the only project that takes up the extreme north of the masterplan perimeter by creating an office building. The project makes good use of the site. The volumes are placed logically along the traffic arteries. However, the recreation and green areas in the center and south of the site are not articulated and are wholly unprotected from the traffic noise on both sides.
