![]() "New Urban Landscape – Stadt zwischen Raum" – Playing with Geometry
Two angular brackets of buildings create a geometrical spatial order that yields spaces with diverse qualities, including a long strip of green public space. Bridges, overpasses and various green areas connect the site to the adjacent quarters. The Team Student: Daniela Kühn Professor: Prof. Philipp Oswalt, Dipl. Ing. Astrid Lueckel School: Universität Kassel (Germany) Video The Idea The idea of this project is to structure the site with a strong geometric design by the placement of two angular buildings, one in the east and one in the west. The buildings comprise two linear strips that stand at an acute angle to each other. Functions are appropriately allocated inside, in between, or completely outside of the buildings. The Project The apartments are situated in the angular bracket in the east. The community centre is placed between the angular building wings pointing to the west. An expansive urban park is in the south of the long extended southern arm of the building pointing to the east. The sports and leisure park spreads out centrally in the space between the two angular buildings in the middle of the site. The Jury Assessment Despite its simple geometry, this project meets the requirements of the competition with a well-argued design. Bridges, crossovers, and various green areas connect the site appropriately to the adjacent quarters. Despite some drawbacks, like the overregulated urban park and aesthetic conflicts with the Otto Wagner bridge, the project contains a number of interesting concepts.
