"Rough Sketch" – A Spatial Continuum as an Urban Statement
A massive, futuristic edifice weaves together all the required functions within one spatial continuum while simultaneously reacting to the urban context. The flowing form and surface of the structure invites people to stroll both through and over the building.

The Idea
The basic idea of this project is to create a visually powerful, organic, seamless, undulating structure that flows along the northern border while integrating the required functions along the way – all under one roof. It creates a dynamic visual impact that takes its cue from the heavy flow of traffic and the invisible river Wien. The whole area south of the long extended building is intended to be an open public space.

The Project
The fast food restaurant and gas station are located in the down-sloping northeastern wing of the building, and are well connected to the heavy traffic and subway station. The public functions are concentrated in the space between the viaduct and the river Wien in the northwest section. The residential functions are located in the bulging middle part of the building. The “slow traffic” is directed along its roof.

The Jury Assessment
This project solved neither the spatial connections between the various functions nor issues of accessibility in any detail. However, it was chosen because of its interesting approach to creating a strong identity in the district, its successful integration of the neighboring areas, and its intuitive and meticulous play with form, space, and urban gesture.
